First of the month - Rabbits Rabbits!

What the heck you say?? Wikipedia once again to the rescue! (I cut and paste a bit for your reading pleasure!)

Rabbit rabbit
“Rabbit rabbit” is a common superstition, held particularly among children. The most common modern version states that a person should say “rabbit, rabbit” upon waking on the first day of each new month, and on doing so will receive good luck for the remainder of that month.

Origins and history
The exact origin of the superstition is unknown, though it has appeared in print at least as early as 1920 in England, where it is most commonly said to have originated, though some reports place its origins even earlier, into the 1800s. Today it has spread to most of the English-speaking countries of the world, although like all folklore, determining its exact area of distribution is difficult. The superstition is related to the broader belief in the rabbit or hare being a “lucky” animal, as exhibited in the practice of carrying a rabbit's foot for luck.

Variations
As with most folklore, which is traditionally spread by word of mouth, there are numerous variant versions of the “rabbit, rabbit” superstition, in some cases specific to a certain time period or region. There are hundreds of variants, some of the most common of which include:

- The Minneapolis Willenbring variation (passed on by the Walker family our neighbors.)

In the late 70's my family learned about this folklore "superstition" from our neighbor, Dave Walker in the form of a game.
For many years, on the first of the month Dave Walker and his family played "Rabbits Rabbits" with their family and friends. So by the time we learned about the Rabbit Rabbit folklore superstition it had already evolved into a competitive game to be played with friends and family and passed along!

Here is our word of mouth variation:

The first one to say "RABBITS" (we shortened it to just one rabbit) or to show a rabbit to another person on the first of the month is the lucky winner!

RABBITS! - I WIN!

Comments:
UH, you have a whole day's start on the rest of us...unfair advantage.:)

Love it. Must start it here with Kyle and Tyler. They'll drive everyone bananas with it. Fun!

Robin, the cool thing about this game that I did not know how to explain is..... I am not the ONLY winner... you can now go to Ken and Say "Rabbits" first and you are the winner not Ken.. but Ken then can go to Kyle and say "Rabbits" first and Ken will be the winner not Kyle.. but Kyle can go to Tyler and say "rabbits" first and Kyle is the winner not Tyler.. and so on and so on and so on...
thus the FUN is passed along and you can always find someone to "Rabbit" and you CAN be a winner too.. and YES I do get a time zone advantage.. but that is the challenge to beating ME! maaaahahaha

wow that totally beats "first post bitches" with out being crude and rude like my family!!

I think in my family I will call it, "first rabbit bitches"

ahhahaha love ya miss ya wish i was there!

It only counts when you do it in person. Nice try!!!
Nah, I'm sure that we can make an exception for you since you're on the other side of the world and all =)

Love,
Barby
